How Long Does It Take To Install Double Glazed Windows?

Double Glazing can be an incredible addition to your home. It offers numerous environmental and financial benefits, including improved energy efficiency. At the same time, double Glazing also offers numerous aesthetic benefits. What’s more impressive, though, is the fact that it manages to do all this while still being affordable.

But one question remains: how long does it take?

There are several variables that could determine how long it takes to have double glazing installed – not least of which is the size of your home. But while we can’t give you a direct answer on how long it’ll take, we can give you an idea of why it will take the time it will.

What Affects How Long It Will Take?

There are three primary variables that can determine the time it’ll take. These variables are:

Window Design

Not every window is designed the same way. Some are much more complicated than others. Generally speaking, the more complicated the design the longer it will take to have the windows fashioned.

Size of Your Windows and Home

Depending on the size of your home and the size of the windows you want replaced, it may be necessary to bring in specialist equipment to fix the windows in place. This leads to a longer amount of time to have your double glazing installed.

Number of Windows

The final variable which determines the time it takes to have your windows built and installed is the number of windows you need to install. The more windows you want, the longer it’ll take to have them all installed in your home.

Which Designs Take Longer?

Taking into account the fact that both the number of windows and the size of your home can affect the amount of time it takes to have your double-glazed windows installed, the average time it takes to manufacture and install each window design is found below:

Casement Windows

A casement window is one which attaches to the window frame by one or more hinges. This is the most common type of window. From the time of initial discussion between the client and the glass supplier, it usually takes 10 – 14 days to have it manufactured and installed in your home.

Tilt and Turn Windows

A tilt-and-turn window is one which can be set in one of three positions: closed, tilted, or turned. At the moment, these types of windows are quite rare in the UK and the US. However, because of their similarity to casement windows, they require a similar 10 – 14 days installation time.

Bay Windows

A bay window is a window box that protrudes out of the side of a building. While bay windows have multiple panels, each of these panels is similar to a casement window. As such, they usually take up to 2 weeks to manufacture and install.
